Delta: 2024 budget will tackle road challenges – Onyeme

Determined to fix bad roads in the state, Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, has said that a lot of roads will be captured in the 2024 budget.

The deputy governor stated this on Thursday in Asaba, when the people of Umutu, comprising members of the Umutu Traditional Council and leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Umutu Kingdom, Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, paid him a courtesy visit.

According to Onyeme, most of the communities in the state were requesting either the construction of internal roads or roads linking communities.

“We are in the process of making inputs into the 2024 budget; almost all the communities in our state are requesting the construction of roads within their communities or roads to link their communities with others.

“I want to assure Deltans that most of the roads will be captured in the budget.”

Onyeme also stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration would provide infrastructure and consolidate the security situation in the state.

He commended the people of Umutu community for taking up the responsibility of training the children of members of the community vigilante who lost their lives while checking the menace of herdsmen.

“I want to appreciate the Umutu people for the vision of not abandoning the families of the bereaved vigilante members and for the scholarship scheme for their children,” the deputy governor said.

Earlier, HRH Sunday Ossai Enweliku, the Okpala-Uku of Umutu Kingdom, in an address read by Chief Benedict Oshionya, said the visit was to congratulate and pray for Oborevwori and Onyeme, adding, “We thank God Almighty for putting the Ndokwa nation in the mainstream of Delta politics through you; it is with great joy that we gather here to congratulate and rejoice with you and our governor.”
