Police arrest 5 suspected armed robbers, recover arms

Operatives of Imo State Police Command have arrested suspected five -man gang armed robbers terrorising the state.

The suspects are: David Christopher, 13; Sheriff Abraham, 19; Emmanuel Akala, 27, all from Nasarawa; and Sanusi Umar, 20, and Mohammed Ashiru, 20, from Kano State.

Police spokesperson in the state, Henry Okoye, said the suspects took officers to their hideout in Ama Hausa, Avu, Owerri West Local Council, where two locally made pistols, some live ammunition were recovered.

He noted that intensive search for other items had continued.

According to him, security operatives were investigating to apprehend other suspects on the run.

Okoye assured that those arrested would be arraigned in court after the completion of investigation

“Efforts are on to arrest other members of the syndicate at large. Meanwhile, the suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of a discreet investigation,” he said.

Okoye said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, assured Imo people of the commitment to flush out bandits from all nooks and crannies of the state, releasing emergency phone numbers to the public for prompt contact and report of any case of crime and criminality.
