Just In: Emeka Ihedioha leaves the PDP
Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, CON, the former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, which he claims to have been a part of from the organization’s founding in 1998.

Ihedioha, who identified as one of the PDP’s original members, gave as his reason for quitting the party the party’s incapacity to implement internal changes and offer strong opposition.
Ihedioha discussed his long-standing dedication to the growth and reform of the party in a statement titled “Resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party” released on Tuesday.

“I have made my share of contributions to the growth and evolution of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) since 1998 as one of its founding members,” he declared. Whether in office or not, I have always been proud that the PDP is a party that would consistently turn inward for internal changes and provide the people trustworthy leadership.
Ihedioha, however, voiced his dissatisfaction with the party’s current direction, saying it goes against his own convictions.
“Unfortunately, the party has veered toward a direction that is inconsistent with my personal beliefs,” he stated. Regretfully, the party is no longer able to implement internal changes, uphold its own regulations, or provide a strong defense against the ruling All Progressives Congress, despite my best efforts to provide advice.
Emeka Ihedioha emphasized the importance of making this move while acknowledging that it was not an easy one to make.
In view of the aforementioned, I am forced to submit my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, which will take effect right away. Even though I think this is the correct decision, it was not an easy one to make,” he said.
Emeka Ihedioha reaffirmed his dedication to supporting the country’s democratic process and sound government in spite of his resignation.
“I will always be available to offer my services towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria, even after this resignation,” he said.
