Ahead of the Imo State gubernatorial election slated for November 11, 2023, Governor Hope Uzodinma has dumped his deputy, Professor Placid Njoku, and picked a female running mate in his stead.

Uzodinma has reportedly picked a female lawyer, Barr (Mrs). Nnedinma Ekomaru, to run with him in the forthcoming election.

Uzodimma initially submitted the name of Engr. Ralph Nwosu, the Commissioner for Works as the placeholder, which left room for lobbying and speculations for the slot.
Reports said an aide of the governor, who pleaded anonymity, said that Barr. Ekomaru’s name has been formally submitted to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja as Uzodimma’s running mate.
