
Imo police recover stolen car, apprehend kidnapping kingpin
Renowned kidnapping mastermind Aralu Chukwudi Charis, of Nnewi North council in Anambra State, has been apprehended by Imo State Police command’s Anti-kidnapping Unit operators.
According to reports, the suspect planned multiple armed robberies and kidnappings in Imo State.

The kidnapping suspect was apprehended from his hiding place in Mgbidi, Oru East council of the state, over the weekend, according to Imo State Police Command spokesperson Henry Okoye (ASP). Charis has been terrorizing the Oru East council and its surroundings with his criminal syndicate.
On April 13, 2024, Aralu Chukwudi Charis,’m’, 40, of Otolo in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State, was smokebombed by the operatives of the command’s anti-kidnapping unit, under the command of CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, from his criminal hideout at Mgbidi in Oru East LGA of Imo State. He was ultimately apprehended after being ambushed.
“One Ash colored Toyota Camry, 2005 model, with registration number: MUS 509 DS Lagos, apparently stolen from the owner, was recovered,” Okoye stated after his hiding place was searched. During the course of the inquiry, he acknowledged being the head of a homicidal syndicate that terrorizes the people of Imo State and gave vital information that will help the determined agents apprehend the syndicate as a whole. After a thorough investigation is finished, the suspect will be formally charged.
In the meantime, Imo State Command Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma has reaffirmed the command’s unflinching determination to persistently crack down on criminal syndicates that cause insecurity in the state.
The CP warned citizens against committing crimes, especially the younger ones, stating that those who do so will almost always be caught and face tragic consequences.
