On Tuesday, the illegal sit-at-home order in the South-East was officially lifted, as announced by Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
During the COAS’s combined second and third quarter-conference in Abuja, he made this announcement.
He claims that the threat was ultimately neutralised by the combined efforts of the military and the appropriate parties.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) have been responsible for a slew of crimes in the South East region, and we have stepped up our efforts to stop them. Lagbaja declared that the infamous sit-at-home order, which had nearly paralysed socio-economic activity in the Rrgion, had been ended thanks to the efforts of our troops in Operation Udoka and other relevant stakeholders.
“Those who adhere to the law are free to go about their daily lives. In a similar vein, thanks to our collaboration with other government agencies, criminals’ attempts to sabotage business in the South West have been thwarted.
The army head said that Boko Haram and other terrorist groups had been stopped from carrying out their attacks, and that businesses had reopened in the states previously plagued by insurgency.

He added that the Nigerian Army has formed Special Forces teams to combat widespread insecurity.
The initial motivation for the call to stay absent from work was to protest the continued imprisonment of pro-Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu.
However, the shift, which has recently taken on lethal dimensions, has had a devastating impact on the regional economy and led to the loss of lives and property.
