ASUP applauds Uzodimma for combining the campuses of Imo Poly
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics’ Imo State Polytechnic branch has praised Senator Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, for uniting the institution’s three campuses and relocating them to Omuma in the Oru East Local Government Area.

The praise followed the adoption of a legislation by the Imo State House of Assembly that combined the polytechnic’s Ehime Mbano and Orlu campuses, with Omuma serving as its headquarters.
Dr. Ugo Onyewuchi, the chairman of Imo Poly ASUP, briefed reporters, explaining that the previous multi-campus structure had an impact on student enrollment as well as decreased income generation.
Onyewuchi went on to say that Uzodimma’s acceptance of a single campus was appropriate and that the school’s reputation may be improved by such an order.
“Uzodmma’s approval of a single campus is timely,” he remarked. This is due to the directive’s potential to improve the school’s reputation.
However, the head of ASUP made a plea to Uzodimma to approve funding for the 2023 promotion, add additional officers, enroll Imo State Polytechnic employees in the contributory pension plan, and promptly pay the gratuity.
As a result, he ordered the state government to build the ASUP secretariat building, which was forfeited to the University of Science and Environmental Studies, Umuagwo (the former polytechnic site) during the relocation to Omuma, and pay the salaries for March, April 2018, and February 2020, respectively. He also ordered the state government to implement the governor’s approval for the payment of an increased salary scale.
“To ensure the best possible service delivery, the Imo state government should kindly donate vehicles to the union and establish a governing council for the polytechnic,” Ontewuchi continued.
