Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah Donates Cow,Goats,and truck loads of tubers of yam to Igwe Nnewi, The Three Obis and Ndi Isi Obi
Nnewi, (the safest town in the Southeast),went agog,yesterday with festivities featuring several cultural dance troupes, as well as wrestling competition among men from different quarters that make up the city with different types of masquerade also on display.
The New Yam Festival, known as ‘Iwa-Ji ohuu’ or ‘Iri-Ji Ohuu’ is a celebration of the prominence of yam in the socio-cultural life of the people. During the festival, the people thank God for the bountiful harvest of yams and perform traditional rites to declare the new yam fit for general consumption.
This year’s festival is witnessing an influx of people as the security architecture put in place by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah triggers mass return.
Present at the epic event were the Igwe of Nnewi His Royal Highness Igwe Kenneth Orizu III (Igwe na-eje ụka), the Obi of Uruagu His Highness Obi Afam Charles Obi (Ogidi), the Obi of Umudim His Highness Obi Benneth C. Okafor (Amaukwu), the Obi of Nnewichi His Highness Obi George Onyekaba (Obidiugwu), ndị isi Obi, and illustrious sons and daughters of Nnewi.
