The South-East nominee objects to Tinubu’s nomination.
Urum Kalu Eke, a candidate for the Central Bank of Nigeria Board of Directors, turned down the invitation, claiming that he was already working for the World Bank.

The South-East nominee objects to Tinubu’s nomination.
This was brought to light when the Senate started the confirmation procedure for the nominees on Thursday during the plenary session.
On February 13, President Bola Tinubu sent Urum’s and four other people’s names for confirmation as CBN board members.
However, Senator Orji Kalu (APC, Abia North), a former governor of Abia State, informed the Senate during the confirmation process that a constituent had called to decline the offer, citing a conflict with his current position as a World Bank consultant.
The nominee informed me that this position would interfere with his work as a consultant for the World Bank, federal government agencies, and other private businesses, he stated.
In the meantime, the Senate has approved the nominations of four additional CBN board members that the President forwarded to it.
On Thursday, the Senate confirmed Robert Agbede, Ado Yakubu Wanka, Mrs. Muslimat Olanike Aliyu, and Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi as Directors.
The confirmation came about as a result of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions Chairman, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru (APC, Lagos East), reviewing a report on the nominee’s screening.
In line with sections 6(1), (2) (d), and 10 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, Abiru declared, “That the Senate do receive and consider the report of on the confirmation of the nomination of the following Five (5) persons as members of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
He claimed that because Urum Kalu Eke from Abia did not show up for the committee’s screening, the Committee did not clear him.
