Following the commencement of classes in Abia State, the state’s police command counselled school leaders, parents, and students on critical safety tactics.
ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Abia State Police Command, revealed the security methods in a statement made in Umuahia.
The statement recommended school administrators to do complete security evaluations of their school grounds, identify susceptible places, and guarantee that security officers are stationed at crucial school entrance points.
It urged that the professional security people they employed should coordinate with the police to give additional help as needed, while also requesting that schools throughout the state install and maintain Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in strategic positions within school grounds to monitor activities.
The command recommended that school authorities implement strict access control measures, such as the use of access cards and visitor logs, and that all visitors sign in and obtain visitor passes, while also advising school management to train their staff on various security situations such as fire, lockdowns, and evacuation procedures.
It stated that clear lines of contact should be created with local law enforcement agencies and the community for information availability and updates, and that any suspicious activity surrounding school environments should be promptly reported to security agencies.
The statement asked parents to keep open channels of communication with their children at school by remaining up to date on any security upgrades or changes to school policy.
Aside from that, the Abia State Police Command encouraged parents to supply schools with up-to-date emergency contact information so that they can be reached in the event of an emergency.
“If your child commutes to school, make sure they use safe and dependable modes of transportation.” “Know the route and driver details,” the statement warned Abia parents.
